Jaime + Ruben’s Bernard’s Inn Fall New Jersey Wedding
It was an absolute honor to be Jaime and Ruben’s wedding photographer. The bride, Jaime, and I were Graphic Communications majors at Clemson. It has been so fun staying in touch with Jaime through the year. Not to mention watching Ruben and her relationship blossom. Fast forward a few years, and Jaime is now a beautiful bride.
I loved everything about this wedding. Jaime elegantly paired her lace gown with a cage veil for a romantic look. Ruben looked equally dashing in his gray Tux and wing tipped brogues. The Bernard’s inn was a great wedding location. The late 19th hotel had spectacular natural light and was set in a quaint little New England town. Even though it was a late November fall day, the weather and foliage cooperated.
A HUGE thank you to Jaime, Ruben, and their families for being such a great group to end my 2016 wedding season. Also, thank you Stefy Hilmer for being my amazing second photographer. You’re a gem.
Bride and Groom Q+A:
What made wedding planning a breeze was that neither the groom nor I had any preconceived notions of what the day had to be. We were continuously amazed by how easily the day came together and how perfectly each detail represented us.
For example, knowing that we preferred a small wedding venue, one afternoon I took a few minutes at work and Googled “small wedding venue NJ”. Much to my delight, someone had put together a list of “15 Divine Spots for Your Small Wedding – New Jersey”. Perfect. I scrolled the list quickly, the Bernards Inn catching my eye. Perusing their website, I clicked on the wedding gallery and promptly found one of their stock images which displayed a bride and groom’s initials in lights on the dance floor. It read RMJ, our future monogram. In total disbelief, I snapped a screenshot and sent it to Ruben. He quickly responded, “Do you want to check it out?” I was hesitant, not sure I was ready to jump into wedding planning. Thirty minutes later, I received an email from the Bernards Inn reading, “Jaime & Ruben, we look forward to meeting you Sunday”. My groom had taken matters into his own hands. Upon walking into the venue days later, we knew. We didn’t need to see a single other venue; this was the spot.
(As a side note, Ruben surprised me and coordinated having our own monogram in lights on the dance floor for our first dance.)
The rest of the wedding details fell in line with equal ease. We had a personal relationship with each vendor, making each day-of details stress-free and another extension of ourselves.
The day was more than we could have ever dreamed. Some of our favorite moments were our “first look without looking” shots, which allowed for a priceless true first look coming down the aisle. As the bride, I got lost in the moment dancing with both my husband (to Close Your Eyes by Michael Bublé) and the medley of songs my dad had personally coordinated with our DJ. The emotion was truly overwhelming. Both Ruben and I were moved by the toasts, and all the genuine expressions of love from family and friends. It certainly was a celebration!
The day was truly perfect in every way. And we couldn’t be happier that the photos capture that sentiment completely!
