Tuscany Wedding Photography | Italy Workshop II

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

After nearly three weeks in Italy, I’m finally back home in Columbus, Indiana and going through so many amazing photos. Starting with the Italy Workshop hosted by the AMAZING Jose Villa and Gene Higa which was held at La Selva Giardino del Belvedere in the Chianti Region of Tuscany about an hour south of Florence. If you EVER wanted to do a destination wedding this is the place!

The photographers in attendance were:Kurstin Roe, Yazy Raclawski Corina de Stefani, Arkadi Fomintsev, Cathy Kovach
Troy Woods, Jen Badalamenti, Jyllian M. Victoria, Molly Michel, Laura Ivanova, Jeff Wilson, Sara Doaldsonn, Lara Hanlon, Alicia Swedenborg, me-Stacy Brogan Able, Bob Davis, Kristen Wood, Melissa Scholllaert Katie Murphy, Mireen Kierzek, and Lelia Scarfiotti.

All of the above photographers are amazing and when we had our closing slide show with some shots we took at the workshop I had shivers run down my spine at the talent. The three days we spent together everyone was so helpful, friendly, and open with each other. Answering questions, giving good critiques, and even swapping lenses, all the attendees and hosts were the best. Everyone at the workshop I miss terribly and have all touched my heart. I can not wait until our girls reunion in Chicago in December as well as WPPI next year. So refreshing to meet kind, open photographers and good, honest, crazy intelligent people!

The hair and make-up was done by the makeup goddess: Mar. Styling was done by the impeccably dressed tom shoes sporting Matthew Johns. The models: Omar, Georgia, Giordano, and Valentina all were local Italians and did an amazing job at varying their poses and expressions. The gowns worn by the women were made by Olia Zavozina out of Nashville, Tennessee.

Last but most certainly not least, Jen Curtis, Ann Hamilton and Joel Serrato we’re essential for helping Gene and Jose keeping things running smoothly and certainly mingled and answered questions with the attending photographers.

Columbus Indiana Family Photography: Mill Race Park + Zaharakos

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

It was a chilly autumn Sunday morning when I met up with Caroline Callahan to do a very special family session. She is originally from Indiana and went to Indiana University in Bloomington and now resides in New York City working for Seventeen magazine. Caroline wanted to do a photo journalistic style shoot capturing her, her husband, and her grandparents.

To start our session, we met up at Mill Race Park in Columbus, Indiana to shoot with the gorgeous foliage as a backdrop. We set up my vintage couches on top of the hill in the park and I started shooting away.

After our informal family shots at Mill Race, we headed over to the newly renovated old-fashion ice cream parlor Zaharakos. There, they ordered a Chocolate Malt and all took turns sharing which of course I took photos of! Her Grandparents have lived in Columbus for several years and were so great to take photos of. Also, they have been married for over 50 years which makes my heart melt in adoration.

Indianapolis Fashion Photography: Mad Men Vintage Photoshoot

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Before I headed on my vacation-honeymoon to Florence, Italy, I shot a series of vintage fashions for Red Rose Vintage in Broadripple/Indianapolis, Indiana. The models: Erica T, Kimberleigh, and Kiersten, along with Make up Artists Kelly Oswalt of Red Carpet Reflection and Stacey R Mayo of The Makeup Company all traveled down to Columbus, Indiana to shoot at my home studio.

Everyone did such an amazing job on this series of Mad Men inspired photos. The models all posed impeccably with panache and the Makeup artists did a stunning job as usual. Both Kelly and Stacey even did the model’s hair.

What resulted was some vintage fashion photos that I adore. Thank you so much to everyone who was involved in this shoot. Can’t wait to work with everyone again!

A sub thought I always have is a shoot like this would work really well for senior photos as by having a theme or a story can make your senior photos so unique and creative. So, if you are in need of funky, creative, not your typical senior photos, contact me at stacy able photography.

Indianapolis, Indiana Pet Photography: Chanel the Yorkie

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

I was fortunate to meet up with Jessica and Matt on a gorgeous warm fall day to photograph their adorable Yorkshire Terrier, Chanel. This tiny ball of energy was a joy to photograph. She watched her parents and followed their lead enabling me to capture her personality or I like to say dog-ality. Chanel weighs all of 3.5 pounds but her intelligence is through the roof. She knows how to sit, stay, lay down, bark loud and soft, roll over, and several other adorable tricks.

With her fluffy ears, deep brown eyes, and energetic happy demeanor, Chanel was a great subject and I can not wait to get some prints made of her for my doggy portfolio.

Tuscany Wedding Photography | Italy Workshop

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I don’t think I can utter the right words to thank Jose VillaGene Higa enough for hosting their amazing Italy Workshop. There were over 20 photographers from all corners of the world who came together to improve. Everyone  put their twitter and iphones down and became an Italian family. Another huge kudos goes to those who ran the behind the scenes: Jen CurtisAnn Hamilton, and Joel Serrato.  Last but not least, styling was done by Matthew Johns and Hair and Makeup by Mar.

Every morning the fiery reddish orange globe of  a sun rose over the Borgo di Fontebussi which is close to Montevarchi and Arrezo, in the Chianti region of Tuscany. The soft yet warm light that awaited us all can’t be explained due to it’s infinite beauty. Gratzi to the amazing staff, cooks, and workers of the Villas for taking on our shutter happy crew.
