Dog days of summer: Barbet (french water dogs) on film

Friday, July 30th, 2010

It’s summer time yet again and the dogs and I are loving it. Frisbees are flying, the garden is growing, and gelato is being made weekly. While we are cooking out, I often snap a couple shots of our Barbet (french water dogs) basking in the summer sunset glow. All of these photos were taken with my Contax 645, a 120/220 film camera. I’ll have a longer post on that subject soon.

Dominican Republic Destination Trash the Dress Photography

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

The day after their destination wedding at the Dreams Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Dana and Matt requested a trash the dress session on the white sand beaches. These two were tired but braved one last session in the sand. I’d HIGHLY recommend doing a trash the dress if you do a destination wedding and after you see the below photos you’ll agree!

Bloomington Engagement Photography: Emily + Justin

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Emily and Justin are IU grads so it was only natural that their engagement photos were taken in Bloomington, Indiana home of the Bloomington farmers market, Indiana University sample gates, and the gorgeous IU campus. These two were easy to photograph as they were casual in front of the camera. I can’t say how much I love my job when I get to photograph a couple like Emily and Justin.

We started at the Bloomington Farmer’s Market (best farmer’s market in Indiana!!!). The various farmers were gracious and let us use their flowers for props. Next, they changed into a casual outfit, and we moved to the beautiful IU entrance. The soft yet already steamy light through the old, large trees was perfect. Most of the session was shot with my Nikon d700 but I threw in some contax 645 120mm film, and Polaroids for some extra creativity. The film will be coming to a future post once it’s developed.

He was such a snuggler! How many chances does one get to take a photo with a skunk?

Indianapolis Engagement + Pet Photography: Taryn + Kirk

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

It was early Sunday morning at the downtown Indianapolis canal where Taryn, Kirk, Finley, and I met for their engagement session. The light was perfect and the surrounding area was full of art and color. Finley, the couples cute goldendoodle puppy was wide awake and ready for her photo debut. Luckily I had my husband to woo little Finley as although she deserved lots of spotlight, this session was for her parents.

Indianapolis Wedding Photographer: Annie + Devlin’s Military wedding

Monday, July 19th, 2010

If you follow me on facebook or twitter you know I posted about learning a life lesson at this wedding. Annie, the bride, had emergency surgery 2 days prior to her wedding. I had gotten the call that  the wedding may not take place as the bride could hardly stand. The wedding did not go exactly as planned, but Annie decided to go through with it and she did not let one thing bother her. Even though she was not at 100%, she smiled and took the day in stride.

This spunky sweet girl decided to infuse her wedding with DIY and unique ideas. From the vibrant blue ruffled stilettos, to the hot pink bridesmaid shoes and bouquets, there were so many fun details to capture. Even her wedding ring, necklace, reception flip flops, aisle decorations, and peacock feather bottle center pieces were all do-it-yourself. Her Marine husband, Devlin was very dashing in his official ensemble.

There were giant vintage family photos displayed on the Lahr Atrium windows. A beautiful touch I thought.

Needless to say the shoes didn’t stay on long so of course I took more photos of them. I love wedding detail photos!

The crowd tossed birdseed as the couple excited… cute idea except there was a pound of seed on Annie’s gorgeous custom gown we had to shake out. Still it didn’t bother Annie a bit.

This is where Devlin proposed (right by the fountain) so it was natural to take some wedding photos here.

Photo perfection. With a tiny bit of planning with the photographer the couple can get these dreamy sunset lit photos. Stunning!!!

Indiana Family Photography: A Family Reunion

Friday, July 16th, 2010

The last couple weekends were pretty busy for me. Two weddings back to back then a family reunion session with over 30 people. The family session could not have been easier. They were extremely easy going, happy, and even the kids were mellow. An added bonus was the short session with the parents of the 7 sibling bunch. It is beautiful and inspiring to see the love they still have for each other.

Starting with some family shots:

Here are the parents (and grandparents) of this friendly family bunch.

Now some outtakes. My trusty husband came along with me and although I sabotaged his camera’s ISO from the dark wedding the night prior, he was still able to snag some fun shots of me taking photos.

I have to give a huge thank you to this group. They made my job easy and were just a great bunch to photograph.
