Indiana Food & Pet Photography: Dog Bone Gourmet Bakery

There is a great new company out of Columbus, Indiana called the Dog Bone Gourmet Bakery. They are providing natural homemade treats for dogs. Some are specifically made for dogs with allergies. The owner, Lindsey Turner, contacted me as she wanted to showcase some clean photos of her products as well as her new packaging and logo.

Right away I knew Lola, my chihuahua, had to be the model. Her expressions are always hilarious and for this shoot she did not let me down. She was patient and waited for her command to eat the treat. Also modeling was Treasure and Cleo my Barbet. They were not keen on waiting to eat the treat so there were crumbs all over after their pet photography modeling debut.

Italy Barbet Pet Photography | Barbet in Cinque Terre

While in Italy, my husband met me in Florence to start our belated honeymoon. We chose to wait a year as we were wed in Guatemala on Nov 1, 2009 and after that trip and the holidays we were exhausted. While in Italy, we headed to the northwestern part of La Spezia and Cinque Terre which is known as the Italian Rivera. Besides wanting to hike between the villages of Cinque Terre, we were there to visit a Barbet breeder (and now friend) Ezia. Ezia is responsible for my male, Cinna who I got in France over 2 years ago. She has several beautiful Barbet and is working hard to preserve the old Barbet bloodlines. Not only is she a great breeder, Ezia is a amazing groomer with the most muscular arms I have ever seen. She taught me some tips and techniques to manage my pack of Barbet in America.

If you do not know what Barbet are that is quite ok as there are around 1100 in the world and around 50 in The United States of America. They are French Water Dogs and said to be the ancestor of the Briar and Bichon, and close cousins with the Poodle, Portuguese Water Dog and Spanish Water Dog. Besides photography, Barbet are my passion. My sister-in-law brought one back almost 10 years ago and ever since then I’ve been in love and used my design abilities to make a website to promote the Barbet. Now I am the President of the Barbet Fanciers Club of America and am working diligently for full recognition for the Barbet in the AKC.  You can read more about Barbet at www.americanbarbet.com or at www.barbetfanciers.com

Not a Barbet but still cute.. this is Bosco who was in for a wash at Ezia’s Grooming Salon in La Spezia

Indianapolis, Indiana Pet Photography: Chanel the Yorkie

I was fortunate to meet up with Jessica and Matt on a gorgeous warm fall day to photograph their adorable Yorkshire Terrier, Chanel. This tiny ball of energy was a joy to photograph. She watched her parents and followed their lead enabling me to capture her personality or I like to say dog-ality. Chanel weighs all of 3.5 pounds but her intelligence is through the roof. She knows how to sit, stay, lay down, bark loud and soft, roll over, and several other adorable tricks.

With her fluffy ears, deep brown eyes, and energetic happy demeanor, Chanel was a great subject and I can not wait to get some prints made of her for my doggy portfolio.

Indianapolis Indiana Pet Photography: Dog Park Days of Summer

A couple weeks ago I visited a friend who had a lovely dog park near her home. Among other shoots we did, she took me to the dog park and of I couldn’t help but capture some of the doggy personalities there. Two crazy-eyed (I call dogs with different colored eyed “crazy-eyed”) huskies were there, Abby, Marshay’s lab mix, and several other furry friends.  My favorite shots are of Abby drinking out of a water bottle. She’s one goofy pooch.

Columbus Indiana Pet Photography::: DOGA

Doga is Yoga with and for Dogs. In a nutshell, there are poses you can assist your dog in as well as pose with the aid of your dog. Think triangle pose where the human makes a triangle shape and then leans the hand on the dogs head. The dogs get to spend quality time with their human and other dogs. It’s a modern twist on yoga that can be fun for everyone. June 20th, 2009, Columbus Indiana hosted their first Doga event. The event was hosted by Lindsey Turner The Pet Nanny and Tamera Pauli of One Body One Soul Massage and Wellness Studio in. Guest speakers and and instructors for the evening were Monica Kendrick, certified yoga/doga instructor, Candy McKing from Sit Can Happen, and Jackie Oltman a with Tail-Waggers. Due to the events success Lindsey and Tamera are planning another doga event for late August!

I was asked to attend to take some photos of the canine doga participants. There were several dogs there and all got along well with each other and the humans. There was one in particular, Stella, who did almost every pose with ease and trust. She’s the little black and white dog doing the human assisted “downward dog”.

Columbus Indiana Pet Photography: Pierre

Mr. Pierre is a rock star toy poodle. He has all the warmth of a big dog wrapped up in a tiny and sometimes poofy heart. He is sweet, smart, happy, and the poodle behind Pierre’s Pet Salon on 46 West. Megan, the groomer and owner of Pierre’s salon rescued him a couple months ago and he has been her sidekick ever since. I met Megan through Lindsey who is The Pet Nanny in Columbus, Indiana. Lindsey introduced us and I crossed my fingers that I would be able to do a shoot of Pierre one day. Between Megan’s busy grooming schedule (check her out if you have a pet!) and my frenzied summer wedding photography schedule, we finally were able to schedule Pierre’s modeling debut.

He stepped up in my mini-pet studio and rocked the scene! In less than 30 minutes we had several regal portraits, even some with bling. This little man even showed off his “touch” trick where he gives a high five with his cute little poofy paws. Pierre reminded me how much I love pet photography. Being able to capture animals expressive characters makes me love photography all over again.
