Indianapolis Wedding Photography: Ashley and Scott

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

On October 17th, 2009, Ashley and Scott’s friends and family came together at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Indiana for their wedding. Outside the church, the trees were a vibrant orange, yellow, and red. The skies alternated between sunny to overcast which many which didn’t bother me as overcast skies ROCK for wedding photography!!

After the  ceremony the wedding party and I headed to the Ellenberger park in Indianapolis for some fun informal shots. The girls donned the men’s tux jackets (it was chilly) and Ashley and Scott were ravishing with the leaves falling behind them. They were such a sweet couple as I spotted a cute pug in the park, Lily, and they took some photos with her as why not?

The reception was a short drive away in Reelsville. I can’t even give words to the beautiful land Ashely’s parents have there. They set up an enormous white tent with heaters (thank you!!). The bride and groom joined soon after on a mule drawn carriage with a hand painted just married sign on the back. Toasts, great food, surprise fireworks, plenty of dancing, and a toasty glowing bonfire rounded out their gorgeous wedding day.

Enough rambling, thank you Ashley and Scott for choosing me to be your photographer! Here are some of their many beautiful photos:

Columbus Indiana Wedding Photography: Bridal Portraits

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Bridal portraits are a series of formal pictures of the bride in her wedding dress taken weeks before the wedding sometimes at the photographers studio but more commonly on location. If the session is done outdoors and special steps are taken to ensure the dress does not get dirty. Sometimes a couple may choose to have a picture taken of them both (similar to an engagement/”e-session”) in addition or instead of a bridal portrait.

Many brides use the bridal portrait photos in wedding announcements, albums, online, as well as display a large print at the reception. These sessions are great for a bride who is picky and is concerned about getting the best photo without the rush and nerves of the wedding day. Step forward a couple years, when the bridal portrait is on the grooms desk or framed and displayed at family members’  homes, the bride is happy she had these portraits done. Going to school at Clemson in South Carolina, I noticed several brides getting these bridal portraits.

The best time to do these may need to be timed along with local newspapers and invitation designers as the bride will have to check with them to see what their time lines are. Other things to consider are getting hair and makeup done to ensure the bride has a polished elegant look similar to her wedding day. As for flowers, pho-flowers or a quick trip to a farmers market for local flowers will do. Spending tons of money on a bouquet for the bridal session isn’t necessary.

In addition to the Trash the Dress Sessions I’ve been doing, I’ve done some elegant bridal sessions. Most recently, I shot Kyissa in Columbus, Indiana in a studio like setting. We did not harm the dress and even did some almost trash the dress-like shots as we used my vintage french fainting couch outside, but her dress did not come in contact with dirt.

Clemson, South Carolina Wedding Photography: Mark + Jessie

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Let me start with the back story on this Tiger wedding. Mark and I have known each other since my freshman year at Clemson University in South Carolina. I transferred into Graphic Communications and met him in my first class, which consequently was photography. Ever since then between internships, summers, and everything else that happens during college we have stayed friends. I can’t tell you how much Mark helped me get through those 12+ hour print runs.

Fast forward two years after graduation, through the wonders of facebook I saw he was engaged and of course was ecstatic for him. I offered to help shoot their wedding and next thing I know I was back in Clemson town marveling at all the things that have changed and stayed the same.

Mark met his lovely lady at the cheap seats which is an institution all its own at Clemson. The cheap seats is a bus parked at the baseball game with seating on the roof thereby being “cheap” seating at the baseball games.

Their wedding was unlike any wedding I have been to or photographed and was so Mark and Jessie. Mark started his day by sailing around Lake Hartwell. Jessie started her day with a breakfast brunch with all her bridesmaids. I was fortunate to have been in attendance at both. The groomsman dressed in and around the cheap seats bus. The grooms party was so much fun. They posed on Mark’s sailboat, the dock, and even took a spin on Lake Hartwell to capture the grooms party and Mark complete in their tuxes cruising on the water.

From Clemson students, cheap seat members, sailing club friends, and family the sanctuary was full of people to show love and support for the couple. After the ceremony, The wedding party took the Cheap Seats to Tillman and frolicked on Bowman field. Even though it felt like 100 degrees with the southern humidity, the group jumped, walked, and laughed through their portraits. The wedding party departed on the cheap seats and I was lucky to spend 25 minutes with the newly wedded couple taking photos around Clemson. After their portraits they drove off in a vintage white ford.

The reception was held at the Clemson Ramada Ballroom. The dance floor was packed at capacity. Everything went as planned from the first dance to Bob Marley to the cutting of the cake. There was even a special appearance by none other than the Clemson Tiger who trotted around the ballroom getting everyone into Tiger Spirit. He even caught the garter as the youth group all attempted to avoid coming in contact with it.

So to end my novel of a blog post—Best wishes to you Mark and Jessie! Have fun on your honeymoon in the Caribbean and can’t wait to share these photos with you when you return.

Indianapolis, Indiana Trash the Dress: Andria

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Finally, a true trash the dress. In an earlier post this year, I explained what trash the dress means.  Andria posed beautifully and we found out it’s harder to hear while under the waterfall vs underwater. In shooting this, I kept thinking about the RocknRoll bride blog as if you’ve seen her blog it features the most beautiful photography with focus on creativity and “rocknroll” style.
