Seymour Indiana Wedding Photography: Amy + Mike get married

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

What a beautiful late summer wedding Amy and Mike had. Between the forest decorated cake, diy table decorations, the thumb print guest tree, colored straws, and vibrant bouquets this wedding was a joy for me to photograph. I loved all of the memorable photo locations such as the fire tower and the sunset shots in the vineyards of Chateau De Pique. As always, I had a wonderful time working with the couple and their families.

Being these two work in the state parks, it was only appropriate we go to a small park near Brownsburg to climb the fire tower. I love when couples have creative ideas all their own!

Amazing cake made by Mike’s Aunt. The bases, both fathers of the couple cut down stumps and then Amy covered the bases with moss. Very appropriate cake for two foresters.

Slightly obsessed with the table decorations. They were small flowers made of twigs and colorful paper. So many great DIY ideas from this wedding!!

Higuey, Dominican Republic Trash the Dress: Tourist Market

Friday, August 27th, 2010

I broke up the “trash the dress” session posts as we did a 3 part series. Our last stop in Higuey was to a typical tourist market. They had all sorts of pottery, carved mahogany, and colorful Caribbean style paintings.  I had so much fun photographing the bride and groom perusing for various souvenirs. At one point, the shop owners brought out a purple alcohol and gave the couple a shot.

I asked the bride, Dana, about her thoughts on Trash the Dress Photography:

The best part of the trash the dress photos was just getting out of the traditional poses and backgrounds to really get a feel of the location we were in. It felt so much more intimate and meaningful to explore the local places and take pictures our wedding attire. Being at the local basilica, knowing how important it is to the Dominicans, was a great feeling, and we had an amazing time taking pictures there and at the other locations. On your wedding day, everything goes by so fast that it is hard to just ENJOY it all. Doing the trash the dress pictures was so much more laid back, that I felt so much more connected to the area and to Matt, and I think that it shows in the pictures

Indianapolis Wedding Photographer: Annie + Devlin’s Military wedding

Monday, July 19th, 2010

If you follow me on facebook or twitter you know I posted about learning a life lesson at this wedding. Annie, the bride, had emergency surgery 2 days prior to her wedding. I had gotten the call that  the wedding may not take place as the bride could hardly stand. The wedding did not go exactly as planned, but Annie decided to go through with it and she did not let one thing bother her. Even though she was not at 100%, she smiled and took the day in stride.

This spunky sweet girl decided to infuse her wedding with DIY and unique ideas. From the vibrant blue ruffled stilettos, to the hot pink bridesmaid shoes and bouquets, there were so many fun details to capture. Even her wedding ring, necklace, reception flip flops, aisle decorations, and peacock feather bottle center pieces were all do-it-yourself. Her Marine husband, Devlin was very dashing in his official ensemble.

Needless to say the shoes didn’t stay on long so of course I took more photos of them. I love wedding detail photos!

The crowd tossed birdseed as the couple excited… cute idea except there was a pound of seed on Annie’s gorgeous custom gown we had to shake out. Still it didn’t bother Annie a bit.

This is where Devlin proposed (right by the fountain) so it was natural to take some wedding photos here.

Photo perfection. With a tiny bit of planning with the photographer the couple can get these dreamy sunset lit photos. Stunning!!!

Lafayette Wedding Photography: Erin + Nick The Trails

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Erin & Nick wed this past memorial day and everything could not have gone smoother! Floating through the trees were bundles of cotton tree blossoms which gave the day a light romantic feel. The wedding and reception both took place at The Trails in Layette, Indiana. What was super awesome about this wedding was all the family photos, bridal photos, and bridal party photos were taken before the ceremony so right after they said I do they went straight into party mode. At sunset, we snagged the couple  for a some quick photos as the light was drop dead gorgeous sunset perfection.

Some questions/answers, suggestions, and thoughts from the Bride:

Why the Dominican?
The largest reason is because our son is 2 years old. We wanted the wedding to be special and exciting to him, and didn’t feel that a church wedding would have much to offer to a toddler. A destination wedding, on a beach, is much more exciting to him, especially because he gets a fun vacation with his parents and grandparents!… The Destination Wedding allows me a week of relaxation with the most important people in my life, and a laid back lead-up to the wedding, and is much more casual so I’m not as uncomfortable being the center of attention!
We chose the Dominican republic because I have been on a vacation there before with one of my best friends (my maid of honor!!) and we LOVED it. It was just gorgeous, so it was a top choice for our wedding. We are on a limited budget, as are many of our guests, so we chose a resort that had a LOT to offer, at a reasonable price. Also, because we are taking our son, we had to go to a resort that is kid-friendly; but we also wanted a resort that wasn’t kid-centered, as our son is the only child coming to our wedding. We didn’t want our adult guests to feel like they were at Disney!

Favorite Detail?
I don’t know if I can pick out one favorite detail of the entire wedding. I think that it has to be the cute little things Jackson was doing during the ceremony (playing peek a boo). Or, when he would come up to me, and pat my dress or look at my shoes, because he liked them so much. Just the little things that showed how much he was enjoying the wedding.

Would you change anything?
I would have tried to designate one person as the “go-to” person to coordinate meals, etc. so that I could have relaxed more instead of always trying to plan where/when to meet.

Funniest Memory?
Jackson discovered that he could put his hands in front of the pool jets and spray people. That was one of the funniest things, as he was spraying all of our friends and family in the pool!
Obviously, being all-inclusive, there were a few hysterical stories of people after a few cocktails….Just ask Matt!!! =)

Advice for brides to be?
RELAX. Delegate as much as possible, let others make decisions that really don’t matter, and just enjoy it.

Romantic Inspired Wedding Photography: Alexandria Virginia

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Awhile ago I asked friends on my facebook page how they would describe my photography style in three words. The responses were fantastic with words such as: unique, creative, stunning, romantic, passionate, fresh, clean, emotional, and vintage. Sometimes I can mentally get stuck in putting words together but having those words defining my style really help me reflect upon my goals in wedding photography.

Well a couple weeks ago while Barbet sitting in Alexandria, Virginia I styled and shot a session that epitomized my vintage romantic style on film. It started with a old tea length wedding dress and everything fell into place from there. Josh brought a bow tie, argyle socks, and suspenders which perfectly matched some of Nina’s shoes. The flowers were from Whole Foods and were a mix of Calla lilies and Ranunculus flower which are the it flowers right now. Makeup was done by Shaune with www.shadesofshaune.com
