Deer Park Manor Wedding in Bloomington, Indiana: Justin + Alisha

Friday, August 5th, 2011

I know I say this every so often but Justin and Alisha, their engagement session can be viewed here, feel like dear old friends. Photographing their wedding at Deer Park Manor in Bloomington, Indiana, felt like I was hanging out with college buddies. From my cheeks hurting from smiling so hard to my eyes were swelling with tears, this was a beautiful event to be at. Their modern yellow and gray color scheme along, heaps of great details, and the beautiful emotions during the ceremony and first dances were priceless.

Advice for future brides: Make your wedding your own, don’t follow the Ho hum weddings that everyone sees. You enjoy it more and it will mean more in the end. It’s your day, make it yours!

Green and Purple Midwest Wedding: Megan & Andrew

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Megan and Andrew’s July 2011 wedding in the countryside of Indiana was wedding perfection. I knew from their engagement session, their Indiana wedding was going to be special. From tiny purple jars filled with fresh flowers, to wine bottles as seating placement every detail fit. Andrew’s mom, Jennifer, really put so much heart and soul into helping the couple and you’ll see in photos below how much work she did! Then Megan was a sight to see with her gorgeous curls, cathedral train, and strands of pearls for a classic yet modern bridal look. I could talk on and on about all the great moments but of course photos speak beyond any description I could give for this adorable couple’s big day.

Bride Q&A’s

Favorite moment of the day – Drew and I had a chance to sneak away and escape the chaos prior to the ceremony. It was the only time we got to truly be alone the entire evening. We were able to just relax and be our goofy selves for a few minutes. I don’t think I would have been nearly as calm in the time leading up to the ceremony had it not been for that.

First dance song – “You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor

Favorite wedding purchase - Space Capone (the band)! They put on an amazing performance (as always) and kept everyone dancing. Drew and I love their music and it was just awesome to see people having fun and enjoying it as much as we did, despite the fact that many of them didn’t know a single song.

Funniest moment - Hopefully she doesn’t read this, but it had to be my bridesmaid Brooke’s epic spill (pun intended). She had a beer for me in one hand and one of her own in the other. She tripped on something and literally flew through the air. She, and the drinks, landed hard on the dance floor. I felt bad, but couldn’t stop laughing!

Would you do anything different - No. Even though everything didn’t go exactly how I had planned, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night

Advice for future brides – A trustworthy wedding planner or an unbelievable mother-in-law (I, fortunately, have the latter) is a must. There is no way you can coordinate every aspect of the wedding on your own, nor would you want to! I would never have been able to relax and enjoy myself as much as I did that day had it not been for Jennifer. She literally thought of everything!

Columbus Indiana Wedding Photography: Bridal Portraits

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Bridal portraits are a series of formal pictures of the bride in her wedding dress taken weeks before the wedding sometimes at the photographers studio but more commonly on location. If the session is done outdoors and special steps are taken to ensure the dress does not get dirty. Sometimes a couple may choose to have a picture taken of them both (similar to an engagement/”e-session”) in addition or instead of a bridal portrait.

Many brides use the bridal portrait photos in wedding announcements, albums, online, as well as display a large print at the reception. These sessions are great for a bride who is picky and is concerned about getting the best photo without the rush and nerves of the wedding day. Step forward a couple years, when the bridal portrait is on the grooms desk or framed and displayed at family members’  homes, the bride is happy she had these portraits done. Going to school at Clemson in South Carolina, I noticed several brides getting these bridal portraits.

The best time to do these may need to be timed along with local newspapers and invitation designers as the bride will have to check with them to see what their time lines are. Other things to consider are getting hair and makeup done to ensure the bride has a polished elegant look similar to her wedding day. As for flowers, pho-flowers or a quick trip to a farmers market for local flowers will do. Spending tons of money on a bouquet for the bridal session isn’t necessary.

In addition to the Trash the Dress Sessions I’ve been doing, I’ve done some elegant bridal sessions. Most recently, I shot Kyissa in Columbus, Indiana in a studio like setting. We did not harm the dress and even did some almost trash the dress-like shots as we used my vintage french fainting couch outside, but her dress did not come in contact with dirt.
