Columbus Indiana Photographer: Chelsea + Nick’s Engagement Session

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

I love couples with fun ideas and prop suggestions for their engagement session. Chelsea and Nick did not disappoint and brought their A-game. A little bit of background on these two, they met at a swing dance gathering and they have been dancing ever since. We started their session at the classic Zaharakos in Downtown Indianapolis. Nick and Chelsea shared the infamous green river float which incidentally don’t put the straws in the ice cream as it will overflow, followed by a couple dance dips by the candy counter and in an ally. A quick change of clothing we wandered Columbus, Indiana at my favorite time (sunset) and I will admit I had a hard time picking out my favorites to blog as every photo was gorgeous and full of love.

How did you two meet?
We first met in college at a aerospace engineering club recruiting meeting.  Chelsea was checking out the club where Nick was a team leader.  Nick saw her when she walked in and thought ‘She is really pretty, so I’m sure she already has a boyfriend.’ At Tech, ratios weren’t favorable for guys and Nick hadn’t really met anyone of interest but he’d start to feel otherwise the second time they met.
Our second meeting was at a swing dance club. Nick was dragged in by a mutual friend after working out and Chelsea was asked to help teach him how to dance. They got to know each other more and more through dance, and soon, she was coming up with tons of reasons to hang out with him anytime she could.

How did Nick propose?
For his first real vacation since college, Nick thought it would be a good idea to go to Cedar Point with Chelsea, and knew it would be a great time to propose.  Nick was pretty sure she saw the proposal coming, so all day at the park he tortured her with cliche situations, taking her to the top of the ferris wheel and going so far as to pull out an empty ring box in a photo booth.  At the end of the day, they had dinner reservations at a french restaurant downtown.  About half way through the best meal of duck Chelsea ever had, Nick started moving the plates around, clearing a space between them.  Distracted by her food getting taken away, Chelsea didn’t notice the ring box placed on the table. He opened the box and it was again, empty.  Truth be told, he got the ring earlier that week and they wouldn’t give him the ring until the following day.  Nick asked… Chelsea said, ‘Yes.’

Explain some of your engagement session ideas/props
Well, Nick and I met dancing, so we definitely had to have a couple pictures of dips or we’d never hear the end of it! Also, Nick loves to play video games, and I love reading so Cinderella and Nintendo were our first real passions. We still spend time together with me reading and him playing games (occasionally I even join him).

Wedding date? Theme?
We are getting married the Sunday of labor day weekend next year. We’ll be doing a (slightly) old fashioned, traditional wedding with lots of lace and creams.

Zaharakos Wedding Reception in Columbus Indiana

Monday, January 4th, 2010

On New Years Eve there was a spectacular themed wedding reception held at Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor and Museum in downtown Columbus, Indiana. I was asked by Kim King Smith Events to photograph all the small details she put into this event. From ice cream bowls over flowing with bubble gum pink flowers, candle votive, to the infamous Green River Soda’s lined up on the antique marble counters , this event was planned perfectly by Kim and her team.

Engagment Photos at Zaharakos in Columbus Indiana

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Ever since Zaharakos reopened this past summer in Columbus, Indiana, I have been a frequent visitor. Their antique marble counters, endless array of vintage decorations, and delicious hand made ice cream have rejuvenated the flavor of Columbus, Indiana. I often like to meet clients there to chat over a malt complete with old school paper straws.

Right before Christmas, I met with an adorable couple who are getting married in Brown County in August 2010. While chatting about their upcoming wedding, we found out we have heaps in common. They had both graduated from Clemson in 2005 (I graduated in 2006) we shared a couple friends and great love for Clemson University (GO TIGERS!). What a small world! They now live in Illinois and decided a good mid way point for their wedding is Nashville/Brown County Indiana. I’ll be shooting their wedding and I am teaming with outdoorsy wedding photography ideas.

While at Zaharakos, I couldn’t help but take a couple quick engagement photos for them. Their Zaharakos Special: an ice cream sundae and malt was too cute to pass up on photos. We also shot some photos in the museum side of Zaharakos along with some shots on Washington Street with the Christmas lights glittering as a backdrop.
