Caylie + Joe’s 5.4.19 Scottish Rite Indianapolis Spring Wedding
What a beginning to my 2019 wedding season!! Caylie, Joe, and their friends were amazing to work with. They also had an incredible team of vendors that made the day effortless. There were a few sprinkles in the morning, but thankfully it cleared up so we were able to take heaps of images around the War Memorial and Scottish Rite. Thank you both so so much in having me be your photographer. I hope you will love these images as much as I do!
Bride + Groom Interview:
The day was an absolute dream! We weren’t even worried about the rain in the morning, if anything it made us more relaxed. Since we weren’t getting married in a church, we wanted to chose a venue that still had a church vibe to it, plus my cousin had her reception at the Scottish Rite a few years ago and I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was! We wanted to keep the decor simple and elegant, I thought the neutrals, gold, silver, and pops of dusty purple played nicely with the wood and stain glass windows inside the venue. Darcie and Gene from Detail and Design did a fantastic job capturing our vision! As for the date, even though the Wells family loves Star Wars… we did NOT choose May 4th because of its “May the Fourth be with you” meaning. We knew we wanted a Spring wedding and May 4th sounded perfect!
What inspired your wedding style? I (Caylie) am very much a fan of classic wedding styles. Once we chose our venue, I knew I wanted to keep the decor simple enough to let the building shine, but bold enough to stand out in such a grand space. The guys went with tuxes to keep with the classic theme. But we didn’t forget to add some fun! The guys paired their tuxes with fun, colored socks and I had a wardrobe change into converse after the ceremony was over!
Anecdotes about your gown? Never in a million years did I think I’d go with a strapless gown but I fell in love with it! It felt so classic and timeless. I also LOVED the mile long train, even if it weighed 20 pounds.
Favorite moment(s)? Listening to our Uncle Larry who officiated the ceremony was very special to us. We also loved the speeches! They were all so personal and heart felt, with a little humor obviously. Our first moments together as husband and wife when it was just the two of us inside the bridal suite waiting to be announced was also a time we’ll remember and cherish.
Funniest moment(s)? Getting red wine splattered all over me in my white dress at the rehearsal dinner will be a moment we’ll always remember! Watching grown men twirl umbrellas during our outdoor photos was pretty funny. The speeches added some light-hearted humor to the day, as well!
