Rachel + Greg’s November Antigua Guatemala Wedding at Capuchinas + San Jose El Viejo
Rachel and I got married on November 7th, 2015 in Antigua Guatemala. We worked with Gladys and Olga at Saguzo Eventos who could not have been more helpful and attentive. We always felt like we were the only wedding they were planning. I had visited Antigua before with work, and together, after a couple months of being disenchanted with the wedding planning process in America (and after a couple beers), we decided to get married in Guatemala.
Since we live in Boston, we did almost all of our research online; reading wedding blogs, checking out photographer’s websites who had shot weddings in Antigua, and probably 174,342 Google image searches. Gladys and Olga also made terrific recommendations. Then we went to Antigua for a week in November of 2014, exactly a year before we got married, and picked about 90% of our vendors, venues, etc.
The day was absolutely amazing and far exceeded our expectations. They always say it will be one of the best days of your life, and sometimes that’s hard to imagine during the stressful planning process, but it truly was. We chose a white and gold color scheme with white flowers. We decorated simple yet classy and really let the inherent beauty of the Capuchinas and San Jose El Viejo ruins steal the show. We danced the night away and ended the evening with Fireworks. So many guests told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
Ultimately, you have to have the wedding that you want – no matter what that is. And Rachel and I feel like we got exactly what we wanted. And more!
Rachel: The ride in the classic car from the Ceremony to the Reception. The traffic was terrible, but it gave us a great opportunity to just talk and be with each other. The ceremony went flawless, everything was beautiful and going right, and we couldn’t wait to get to the party.
Greg: When the doors opened to our Reception. I stole a glance while our guests were entering and taking photos. I’ll remember how stunning it was forever. And the fireworks at the end. They were so close the ash was raining down on our heads. Only in Guatemala.
Funniest Moment: The maid-of-honor and best man speeches. Abby quoted Arrested Development and Heidi Montag. Mike accidentally told the entire audience he was now Rachel’s sister. Enough said.
