Jordan + Bobby’s 10.7.2017 Fall wedding at the Columbus Indiana Commons
Jordan and Bobby are such a sweet, fun, and kind couple. They have the most amazing group of friends and family, too. Many of which I have been lucky enough to work with at previous events. Jordan’s love of holiday candy makes me love her all the more. Their vibrant celebration was so them and ended with a gorgeous sparkler exit.
Although the weather wasn’t the best, Jordan and Bobby were a fearless couple. The resulting photos with the Exhibit Columbus pieces were well worth a few rain drops. Several of those modern art pieces are only up until November 26th so these portraits are truly unique!
Thank you Jordan and Bobby for having me be there to capture your festivities. It was really an honor to be there with you two throughout this journey. I’ll keep my fingers crossed you two will move back to Indy as we need to be friends. 🙂
Bride and Groom Q+A:
I grew up in Columbus, Indiana and lived there until I ventured off to college. My parents still reside in Columbus, and it was really important for me to get married in the church I grew up in in my hometown. During my years living in Columbus, I saw The Commons (our reception site) and really a lot of the downtown area transform into an even more inviting place for families and young adults to spend their time. Even if I wasn’t from Columbus, I know I’d still be drawn to its modern and progressive yet small town feel. I love the modern architecture integrated with older homes and buildings, and that was kind of the inspiration for our day. We wanted something modern and different, yet elegant and romantic. My sister and matron of honor, had been married at First Presbyterian Church with their reception following at The Commons only a year and a half before our wedding. This was a great opportunity to confirm our decision for these locations.
I knew I wanted a fall wedding even before I met Bobby, so when he proposed in March of 2016 I knew we were in for a lengthier engagement! We chose our specific date to help us remember our anniversary for all the years to come (10 + 7 = 17…I can’t help it, it’s the teacher in me)! While spring and summer are beautiful- there is too great of a chance of rain in the spring and summer has a chance of being too hot! Little did we know, our fall day would give us a taste of all three of those seasons!! Our day started off with blue skies and warm sunshine, later in the day there were gusty winds, and we wrapped up our evening with some rain. Despite the weather not being what we had planned for, Bobby and I wouldn’t have changed one thing about our day! We feel we selected the absolute best vendors that really succeeded in making our vision come to fruition!
What inspired your wedding style? It’s funny to think about now, because throughout the entire wedding planning process, my mom said I didn’t have an established or set style to plan with and wasn’t clear in telling her what I wanted! I knew I didn’t want a lot of colors and didn’t want to go the traditional fall color palette route. Bobby and I settled on mixed metallics and neutrals for our color palette. For our day, I wanted the vibe to be a blend of romantic, modern, whimsical, and traditional. I saw a few pictures on Pinterest to get the process started, but that quickly became overwhelming! Therefore, once I had purchased my dress, it was much easier to tie things together! I’d say the reception venue and dress were my biggest inspirations.
How did you choose your gown? I lived in NYC prior to moving down to Mississippi with Bobby. Therefore, it only made sense to go back there to the one and only Kleinfeld’s for the first place to try on dresses (not as great as I thought, but I’d never say anything bad about NYC!!). Immediately, the stylists were asking me which designers I favored, etc. which I hadn’t a clue, so they started pulling dresses and letting me walk into the dress “vaults”. It didn’t take long to realize I loved Haley Paige dresses! I absolutely fell in love with the top half of her “Dori” gown, but was hesitant about the bottom. Another stylist brought me the “Ellie” gown which was an A line dress. I fell in love with the bottom of that dress! After hearing that I could get a custom made dress with the top Dori and the bottom Ellie, I really felt that was going to be the one. However, after this only being the first time I had ever tried on dresses, we decided to go to Marie Gabriel in Indianapolis to try on more, and the best part was they carry Haley Paige dresses too, so I could always go back to my first love if I didn’t find anything else that stole my heart. After trying on more dresses, it became quite clear I was still in love with the soon-to-be one of a kind dress! I am so obsessed with that dress and how it fit into my vision!
Favorite moment? The entire day was a dream, so it’s hard to narrow it down to a few of my favorite moments. Of course, seeing each other for the first time walking down the aisle that day was one of the best moments of my life. It was overwhelming the amount of emotions I was feeling. It is surreal knowing you are in a room surrounded with your closest friends and family, yet it only feels like the two of you. I also loved immediately following the ceremony after the rose petal toss. My parents had surprised us with a carriage ride and releasing of white carrier pigeons! As you can see by my face in these pictures, I was completely surprised and ecstatic as I love animals and genuine surprises! I’d have to say my last favorite moment is a tie between the speeches given by my dad, sister, and brother-in-law and getting to truly celebrate and dance with all of our guests. We had the ridiculously fun and talented Sly Band from Cincinnati! When we had a phone meeting earlier in the week to go over final details, the manager asked me if I had any requests, and I said all I wanted was for it to be lively! At one point, I looked up into the exposed rafters 100 ft up and saw a trumpeter jamming out. They were the perfect fit for upbeat and energetic guests!
Funniest moment? As mentioned before, during the day the wind became quite strong. At one point, I was taking group photos with bridesmaids, and I felt a huge gust of wind. Next thing you know, my veil is flying 60-80 feet in the air!! The pictures capturing our faces reacting to what had happened are priceless! Stacy, saved the day chasing it down and catching it!! It still cracks me up thinking about it and is a moment I will never forget!
First Dance Songs? Bobby and I danced to “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne for our first dance. We wanted a song that was slow enough yet didn’t drag. We love the lyrics behind the song and have been singing it together since falling in love in NYC. My dad picked our father daughter dance song. I told him I wanted him to surprise me and make the selection himself! He chose “I Loved Her First” by Heartland. The first time I heard it was on my way to Indiana for the wedding, and I cried the entire song! It was perfect for us and the fact he chose it makes it even more special. Bobby and his mom danced to “Freeze Frame Time” by Brandon Rhyder. Bobby knew he had to slip some country music in there somewhere and this was his best chance! He presented a list of songs to his mom to decide on one and this song made her cry! It was an easy decision!
