Columbus Commons Spring Wedding

Michael + Whitney’s 3.13.2021 Columbus Commons Wedding

This lovely couple wed on a lovely early spring day at St Peters Lutheran followed by a reception at the Columbus Commons. These two were a dream to work with throughout all the craziness that was 2020. They had a great group of friends that made up of their bridal party. Walter and I enjoyed capturing their day! Congrats to the newlyweds!

Q+A with the newlyweds:

Overview of the day: We chose St. Peter’s since Michael attended school there and has been a life-long member, and we selected the Commons based on location and capacity (haha!) – we decided all of this prior to the shutdown last year. The date was chosen due to our schedule flexibility. I work in education, and it lined up relatively well with my Spring Break dates.

Overall, we believe the day went really well and everything ran smoothly given the circumstances. Everyone was really helpful in getting things set up (vendors, wedding party, etc.) and everything turned out beautifully. We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather and day! As far as decor, the box centerpieces were built from the wood pallets at Michael’s family farm (his mom, Lecia, did them) and the flowers were based on the wedding colors and my favorite flower (lilies). I’m not sure that we really had a wedding style – we mainly went with simple, pretty pieces and then foods (dinner and cake/cupcakes) for the reception. Both of us are pretty laidback and stick to what we like.

How did you select your gown: For my dress, I knew I didn’t want to have a bright white dress nor did I want a strapless one. After looking for different things on Pinterest, it became very obvious that I wanted something with lace since it is a staple in some of my wardrobe pieces. At Sophia’s I loved the detail that came on the train and bodice, which was a big reason in selecting it. I added the belt to it to add more sparkle and break up the top and bottom.

Favorite moments: First look helped to calm both of our nerves and keep the special moment more intimate for us. The ceremony and speeches were done well by all three people involved (Pastor Teike, Chelsea Caldwell-Moore, and Jon Nolting). We enjoyed the consistent party on the dance floor throughout the evening as well.

Funniest moment: The lack of enthusiasm for the bouquet toss was pretty evident. Yay for being single!

First Dance Song: Always and Forever by Cory Morrow (Michael enjoys more traditional country music and I liked the lyrics of it – this was a long process)
