Heather and Chris’ wedding festivities took place in Columbus, Indiana in early January as they were all in for a winter wedding. These two were so calm despite the blizzard warnings. While it drizzled most of the day, once we started to see signs of a snow globe, they hopped outside for some epic winter imagery. I greatly appreciate couples who go the extra mile for a creative photo. Their ceremony and reception took place at the Factory 12 Loft. The space was lit beautifully with uplighting, twinkle lights, and candles. I appreciate working with Alan of Audio Magic Entertainment as he knows how to keep the party going. My girl Gina (Pomp and Bloom), made the most beautiful bouquet for Heather. I apologize in advance for the abundance of floral pictures as it is so hard to not be captivated by Gina’s floral artistry.
Bride + Groom Q + A:
Overview of the Day: We considered several venues to host our wedding but decided on the one closest to our home. The industrial look and hardwood floors of the Factory 12 Event Loft were beautiful, and it offered enough space to host both our ceremony and reception. It also was close to the hotel where we planned to block rooms for our guests. As it turns out, the proximity of the Loft to our home and the hotel helped ease our wedding prep and was essential after a blizzard covered Columbus in 8 inches of snow during our reception.
For the date of our wedding, we chose January 19, 2019, because Chris liked the idea of getting married on the 19th day of the month in 2019. We wanted a winter wedding, and we definitely got a beautiful snow photo by the end of it!
Our colors were burgundy and dark blue, which we picked because they felt fitting for the season and would be striking against a gray and snowy white winter background. We wanted our flowers to stand out against our dark wedding colors and brighten the venue, so we picked white with green floral accents. Gina at Pomp & Bloom certainly delivered with beautiful bouquets and displays. As for the ceremony and reception, we are both pretty easy going, and we wanted our wedding to reflect that. A good friend and former neighbor kindly agreed to serve as our officiant, and she kept the ceremony light and fun. This relaxed vibe continued on into our reception.
Anecdotes about your gown? I loved every part of my gown from Bloved. I knew I wanted a dress with long sleeves but had a hard time finding the “one.” Finally, my consultant put me in an A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline and then placed a sleeved lace jacket overtop…..that was it! I could wear the lace overlay for the wedding and then remove it at the reception if I wanted. It was perfect for me!
Favorite moment(s)?We have so many memorable moments from our wedding. Two that stand out are the first look and the snow photo. We did our first look outside the Columbus post office because it offered an overhang to shield us from the rain. When Chris finally got to turn around, he was so happy to finally see his bride in her gown. The first look was the true starting point of our wedding day and our lives together. We exchanged cards with personal notes written inside, took a few photos together, and then our wedding party joined us. It was also neat that our wedding party got to watch our first look from inside the post office through the windows.
We had hoped for a little bit of snow on our wedding day so that we could get a nice winter wedding photo together. It rained all day up to the start of our ceremony. After the ceremony and all the formalities of the reception were completed, Stacy grabbed us to get one more photo together outdoors. She told us it had started snowing, and we were excited to finally get our snow photo. When we opened the door to go outside we were shocked to see several inches of snow on the ground already and heavy snow coming down in strong winds. This made for an amazing snow globe photo! We are so grateful for Stacy’s ability to capture this moment for us.
Funniest moment(s)? The funniest moment at our wedding involved our best man. Shortly before our ceremony was set to begin, we were informed that our best man misplaced Heather’s wedding band. The wedding party had been searching for it for about 15 minutes but could not find it. Heather was the last one to be made aware of the situation, and she was informed when there was only three minutes until we needed to be walking down the aisle. Heather took it all in stride and told our best man not to worry about it. The wedding continued on, and Chris slid an imaginary ring onto Heather’s finger during the ceremony. Multiple people searched all over the venue for the ring but it could not be found. Almost a week later, the venue called to let us know they found Heather’s wedding band while cleaning. Everyone was so relieved, especially our best man! I think Chris and I were the two people the least worried about the missing ring, we were just ready to be married!!
First Dance Songs? Our first dance song was “Lottery” by Jade Bird. It’s a fun, short song that offered us the opportunity to mix up dance styles. We choreographed the dance ourselves, which probably showed on the dance floor, but it was a lot of fun.
Heather and her dad danced to “Sweat Pea” by Amos Lee. It was another short song that they could dance to, and its lyrics were sweet and fitting for a father-bride dance.
Chris and his mom danced to “Teach Your Children” by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. This was one of the artists that Chris’ mom suggested finding a song from, and like the father-bride dance, the lyrics were fitting.
