Fall Chicago Engagement Portraits at Lincoln Park, Wrigley Field, and Lucky dorr

I met Jamie and Dave at Carly and Jim’s Laurel Hall Wedding this past summer. When they reached out to me to photograph their September 1, 2019 wedding in Chicago, I was super excited. For their early fall engagement portraits, we went to a few of their favorites spots around downtown Chicago including Lucky Dorr where Dave proposed. I brought interns Megan and Macey which was great fun as well.  I am looking forward to working with Jamie and Dave in 2019!!

Q+A with Jamie and Dave:

Dave and I met in December 2016. Since we are millennials, we met on a dating app called Hinge. We went on our first date for a Sofar concert, which is a mini show put on in someone’s home or business. This concert was in a really unique loft apartment, where we shared a bottle of wine and listened to a few artists. After the show we went to Soho House for a couple more drinks and plenty of conversation! We still try to go to a Sofar show every month or so together because we love hearing new music and exploring new parts of the city together.

In July of 2018, Dave and I had plans to go to a friend’s home for his birthday dinner. When we were on the way, Dave said Andrew was running late and asked if I wanted to grab a beer at Lucky Dorr, which is our favorite neighborhood bar, tucked in by the park at Wrigley Field. Lucky Dorr has this awesome old train board sign, where each space can flip through the entire alphabet and symbols. (It’s the same sign that we took engagement photos at with Stacy!) We walked up to the bar to order drinks and Dave panicked and said, “Have you ever seen that board change?” The answer would have been, “Of course I have. We come here all the time!” But I couldn’t even respond before noticing Dave getting down on one knee next to me, holding up the most gorgeous ring. I said, “yes!” after asking, “Are you joking?” a few times! When we finally looked up at the board it read, “Jamie, will you marry me?” and then while we hugged and kissed, they flipped it again to read, “She said yes!” After we toasted the bartenders and they took a few photos for us, Dave mentioned that Andrew and Becca were still planning on us coming for Andrew’s birthday and wanted to toast us. We walked the block or so to their house and when Andrew opened the door I was in shock as I scanned the room to find our closest friends and families. Dave had secretly organized a whole surprise engagement party and completely blew me away!

We are so excited to get married in Chicago next September at Morgan’s on Fulton in the West Loop. We look forward to enjoying a taco bar, margaritas, and donuts with our guests as we begin our next chapter!
