Dyona + Dan’s Hotel Baker St Charles late Summer Wedding
Dyona is a talented stylist (https://www.dyonafrycek.com/) so I knew her wedding celebration would be ultra creative. There was so much color, joy, and love during their day. From a marching band that took the guests from the church to reception, colorful bridesmaids gowns, to an aw shucks we are married horderves station, every detail was thought of. Thank you two and families for having me document your day! It was an honor and creative joy!
Bride + Groom Q+A:
I wanted to blend timeless modern decor with bold and playful colors. From the very first invitation we hoped to convey a sophisticated event, yet encourage people to have a fun and let loose.
As a designer the exceptions felt high and I knew I had to keep my guest guessing through out the day. Some elements that may be a wow factor at other weddings were simply expected. Dan’s custom suit, choreographed Daddy/ Daughter dance, multiple dresses, but I feel confident that the guest were surprised by the 50 piece marching band playing Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love”. The band lead the guest from the church to the reception hall just three blocks away. From what I heard there was more dancing then walking.
The Hotel Baker has a unique two-tiered oval reception hall and when you stand in the center it feels like everyone has the best seat. The venue has so much charm, but it also allowed me to transform it to into something completely my own. When the owner of the hotel became excited to see the design I knew we were in the right hands. We brought in the white dance floor, covered the pillars in fabric, covered the bar fronts and added hanging pendants.
There was some details I used to make the décor feel cohesive such as the custom logo, the same fonts and the color pallet , but I am a sucker for the hidden design details. I implement them into everyone of my designs. The oyster tray hinted on our first vacation we took together to Maine and the bar back sign was lyrics to our first dance.
Dan and I wanted to honor our families on our big day. Dan had his grandfathers embroidered handkerchief close o his heart, while I sewed lace from my grandmother/ mothers dress into my own. Also our wedding bands are both from our grandparents. Dan’s band still has a faint engraving from his grandfather’s initials and he wishes to add his own and pass it down one day.
My favorite moment had to be our first dance. I had surprised Dan with a petal drop and the way they fell slowly was so romantic. And although we were in front of all of our friends and family I left as though it was just us.
Funniest moment was definitely when Dan and I were taking photos. I started to feel a little stressed and overwhelmed and every time we were instructed to get close, Dan would lick my face. You read that right. Lick. My. Face. At first I thought I was going to kill him for licking off some of my makeup, but I knew it was his way of unraveling the stress ball I was becoming.
