Laurel Hall Great Gatsby themed Summer wedding in Indianapolis Indiana

Keely + Dan’s Great Gatsby style summer Laurel Hall wedding

Keely and Dan had their Gatsby inspired wedding at Laurel Hall in mid August. This couple was styled impeccably well. Keely was a vision in her Jenny Packham gown and Dan was dapper in his tux. Their bridal party wore black which I absolutely love a black and white wedding. The two had their ceremony on the deck of Laurel Hall with a gorgeous floral arch by George Thomas Florist. Hannah with Design the Day kept everything running smoothly as well. We ended the night with a faux sparkler exit which is a great way to get a few sparkler photos before the party really gets going!

Bride + Groom Q+A coming soon

We chose Laurel Hall because we both agreed that it was the perfect venue for a 1920’s wedding. I loved the all the different rooms (especially the solarium) and I knew if the weather was right that I would want to utilize that amazing terrace. We picked August 10th because it was the only date they had left during summer of 2019. We originally started looking for venues in April – May 2018 (right after we got engaged). I knew Dan was applying to grad school, but when we booked I had no idea where he would be going or when he would start, so I took a chance. Turns out, he chose UNC and they started class a day after our wedding (which led to enormous amounts of stress on my end). I thought the day of the wedding went well! I really have no experience with attending weddings, the last one I attended was my cousin’s when I was 13 years old. I was extremely nervous, but I had an amazing time!

What inspired your wedding style? I’ve always loved the Great Gatsby book and the newest film by Baz Luhrmann is one of my favorites (I know it’s not the best film ever made, but I find it to be visually stunning and I love the soundtrack). So, I knew if I ever got married I would want a 1920’s style wedding. For me, art deco design is the epitome of classy and timeless…I also love the fashion of the 1920’s. I thought I wanted the colors to be more black/gold, but I realized that combination seemed to be more associated with New Years Eve. Instead, I decided predominately white and gold would be a better choice for a summer wedding. For the flower arrangements I took a lot of inspiration from the newest Gatsby film, which had a big scene that featured orchids.

Anecdotes about your gown? It took me FOREVER to find the right gown. I knew I wanted a dress that was more reminiscent of the 1920’s style, but didn’t know how to find it in bridal (And I knew I definitely did not want a train). After seeing this Jenny Packham gown online and then trying it on in store, I knew it was the one (I had it transferred from another location…Boston I think). When I went to try it on for the first time, I was by myself at Lux Redux in Broad Ripple and face timed my mom so she could see it.

Favorite moment(s)? Hearing Dan’s vows, first dance with Dan and then my Dad.

Funniest moment(s)? When Dan put my ring on the wrong hand during the ceremony, and realizing he had slipped a Vanilla Ice line into our ceremony script – “Stop, Collaborate, and Listen”

First Dance Songs? Our first dance song was “You are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne, Dan picked this one.
