Jamie + Dave’s Morgan’s on Fulton Chicago Summer Wedding
Jamie and Dave’s wedding was one I had been waiting for all year. Since capturing their fall Chicago engagement portraits in the fall of 2018, I have been following them along on instagram. These two are some of the nicest people I have ever met. They have been so fun to get to know and work with. Not only did they welcome us with open arms, they scheduled two full hours of portrait time at several jaw dropping locations in Chicago. I may have to hang some of their epic portraits in my studio!! I think you can tell from their images, what an amazing day these two had. I left their wedding with a huge smile and warm heart. Thank you both for making me love every minute of my job.
Bride + Groom Q+A:
We could NOT be happier with every single detail of the day. We loved how our venue, Morgan’s on Fulton, was so true to our combined style. It was a clean and modern loft space, with a gorgeous rooftop setting for our reception. We wanted to keep the decor minimal, because the space, and skyline views, spoke for themselves. When we first saw the reception space we both burst into tears because our planner, Tionna Van Gundy, had so perfectly brought our dream to life with the help of all of our vendors.
We picked the date before we picked the venue. We loved that it was a palindrome (9.1.19) and this number was featured on many little details, such as, Dave’s inner jacket pocket, Jamie’s dancing shoes and bouquet, and bracelets for our moms. We also specifically chose a long weekend for all of Dave’s family and friends traveling from Michigan!
We really wanted our wedding to match our personalities and styles. We loved the city landscape of our venue, we picked Big Star as our caterer for a fun twist on a typical wedding dinner (along with their delicious margaritas), and we chose to opt for simple table runners of greenery against the wood tables instead of linens and centerpieces. We also had a friend of ours do our beautiful signage, including beautiful place cards that doubled as favors. We really felt like it was a true representation of us as couple!
I went dress shopping with my mom, mother-in-law, and older sister (MOH). I found my dress at Nordstrom, but there was a very similar dress from the same designer (Jenny Yoo Collection) at BHLDN that I also tried on that day. While one featured floral lace in the front and back, the other had sheer lace. I decided to take a risk and boy the floral lace dress, but cut the front piece out, and replace it with a sheer piece. This combined the to styles, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! I feel like the chic, classic style is one I won’t regret when I look back on pictures in 50 years!
Favorite moment(s)? It’s hard to pick just one! A few of them were (classically) taking a tequila shot at the hotel bar before leaving to take photos because we learned early on that we had a shared love of tequila (hence the margaritas later), walking into the reception space and losing our cool because we were so blown away by our dream coming to life, and the first few notes the band played of “September” when they sang “It was the very first night of September” and our guests flooded the dance floor immediately!
Funniest moment(s)? When we were trying to stage our first look and Dave was flossing at the top of the stairs, having several cheering tourist boats pass us at one photo location, and when pedestrians, and people on other rooftops in the neighborhood began dancing along with us to the incredible band, Blue Water Kings.
First Dance Songs? Dave and Jamie danced to “Let’s See What the Night Can Do” by Jason Mraz, Jamie and her dad danced to “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle,
and Dave and his mom danced to “93 Million Miles” by Jason Mraz!
