Meredith + Ian 5.18.19 – Newfields Spring Indianapolis Wedding
Meredith and Ian had the perfect wedding day at Newfields in Indianapolis. The day was warm and rain free. The pair started their day getting ready at the Columbia Club then headed to the Newfields campus to get dressed. They had their first look in the gardens followed by family portraits. We were dodging quite a few people as it was community day, but thankfully these two could not have been more patient and kind. Their ceremony on the Lilly Terrace with a beautiful Huppah adorned by Fleurish Floral Design was stunning. The reception festivities did not disappoint either. There was not a moment where someone wasn’t dancing or having a blast celebrating this beautiful couple. Thank you two for having us there to celebrate with you and family!
Bride + Groom Q+A
Given that our work is timed around the NH Democratic Primary in February of 2020, we knew we wanted to have our wedding in the late spring/early summer of 2019. It just so also happens to be peak peony and lilac season which are Meredith’s favorite flowers. Meredith grew up in Indianapolis, and Newfields has always been her dream venue. The day itself was perfect, the weather could not have been better. After a long winter in New England, the warm and sunny almost summer-like day immediately brought joy to everyone.
We both have always had a classic clean style, so nobody is surprised by how the overall style of the wedding. We wanted to incorporate peonies (the Indiana State flower) and lilacs (the New Hampshire State flower) as much as possible. To us, there is nothing more beautiful then when you suddenly wake up in spring surrounded by lush greenery after a dreary winter, so we wanted to also incorporate as much green into the wedding.
I didn’t know what style gown I wanted when I first went shopping, but was consistently drawn to the same type of shape when I looked at dresses. The classic cut of this gown, with a few modern elements on the bodice sealed the deal.
The first look was such a powerful moment for us both, with tears immediately filling our eyes. We’re both so glad we had that moment together before all the craziness began. In Jewish custom, the groom traditionally stomps on a glass to signify the end of the marriage ceremony. We changed it up a bit, and both stomped on a glass. I was nervous about doing it in heels, but you know the phrase ‘Girls can do everything men can do… just backwards and in heels.’ The Horah was also one of our favorite moments. There is nothing more exciting and fun than going up in those chairs with everyone you love cheering and dancing around you in celebration.
The funniest moment is from Meredith’s grandpa. After Meredith’s dad gave a bit of a long welcome toast, Papa Reuben went up to do the blessing over the bread. The room expected him also to give long remarks like his son, but instead he gave a very short jab at Meredith’s dad. He made the whole room burst out laughing with one sentence. “I love my son, but brevity is not his strong suit.” People mentioned it all night long as one of the highlights of the evening.
